Ratatouille

Last night The Husband picked Ratatouille, hoping it would be more the feel-good movie that Up was meant to be last week. It was. We thoroughly enjoyed it. It's directed by Brad Bird. Ian Holm, Peter O'Toole, Brian Dennehy and John Ratzenberger voice characters.

trailer:

Roger Ebert gives it a top 4-star rating and says, "This is clearly one of the best of the year's films." Variety calls it "delicious," "satisfying" and "a warm and irresistible concoction that's sure to appeal to everyone's inner Julia Child". Entertainment Weekly calls it "a blithe concoction, as well as a miraculously textured piece of animated design" that is "fun without very much surprise". Rolling Stone gives it 3 out of 4 stars. Moria offers a mixed review. Bright Lights Film Journal didn't care for it: "I wasn't blown away by Ratatouille, but the audience I saw it with was enthralled. So go if you like." Slant Magazine gives it 3 1/2 out of 4 stars and describes it as
a boisterous ode to culinary delights, artistic inspiration, egalitarianism, camaraderie, family, and Paris, marrying unparalleled CG splendor with humor that's part classical Disney cartoonishness, part Jacques Tati-style physical drollness.

The New York Times says,
“Ratatouille” is a nearly flawless piece of popular art, as well as one of the most persuasive portraits of an artist ever committed to film. It provides the kind of deep, transporting pleasure, at once simple and sophisticated, that movies at their best have always promised.

It's got a 96% rating at Rotten Tomatoes.

  1. Definitely, Ratatouille is a feel good movie...that'll make you hungry! I haven't seen Up yet but understand that it is definitely NOT a feel good movie.
