Head

Head is a wonderful 1968 Monkees movie. There are some fun actors in this film: Victor Mature, Jack Nicholson, Annette Funicello, Teri Garr, Frank Zappa, Sonny Liston, Dennis Hopper.

The wikipedia article says,"The film eventually found a cult following, although even fans tend to disagree whether the film is a landmark of surreal, innovative filmmaking or simply a fascinating mess."

It has had a Criterion release. Slant Magazine calls it an "unsung masterpiece". Roger Ebert isn't a Monkees fan and says, "The film's success is in a series of satires on movie clichés, and in several blackouts." It gets a score of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes.

  2. The Monkees are interesting pretty much everyone agrees they weren't great musicians but everyone likes them. So what is more important to be technically great or to bring people pleasure.

    1. they devoted themselves to improving their musicianship as they worked together to prove themselves. so few can be technically great, but to improve oneself and give people pleasure? i agree that's more important that technical perfection.
